More Golden Sun fanart.
I’m replaying Golden Sun 3 and I don’t know, I just really like Rief’s design. Maybe someday when heads do not take me 3+ hours to paint I will paint in the rest of him.

Rough character render done from a silhouette.
Honestly I don’t know what it is but if I start a painting without a line drawing, I really don’t like how it comes out. I think I’m getting better at these, though.

And another painting for my Golden Sun portrait series: Jenna. Plus line art.

It’s a little frustrating for me to paint over line art sometimes because I feel like I lose some of the character and personality in the process… I still prefer the line art here to the digital painting.

I tried sketching out a line art base in anticipation of painting Garet, but I couldn’t figure out what to do with his hair.

A series of digital paintings I did of some Golden Sun characters to practice color, likeness, proportions, lighting, etc. But mostly for fun.

It’s the end of my first term at Red Engine, and these are the two (nearly) finished entertainment design portfolio pieces I have to show for it.

Finished render of the protagonist was somewhat rushed and I don’t like the color scheme so I’m going to go back and fix that later.

Environment WIP for portfolio project. It’s come a long way from the originals.
Some old ruins. Going to start on a color rendition later.
Admittedly I dropped a few photo textures into this and painted over them, because it’s something my instructor says is okay to a certain extent (and he told me to).

More expressions for my project’s main character. Also color practice and skin tones (which really suck, by the way).
Expressions are my favorite. :]

Painted more faces! With expressions! Yay!

Images are: line art, painting, painting with line art overlay.

I kinda like the effect of the combination, but then again I’m not sure if that’s a stylistic thing or if that’s just me refusing to take off the traditional sketch training wheels.

2 hour painting of my project protagonist’s face. More realistic redesign of the character on the left in this old thing.

EDIT: Added the traditional line art base for comparison.

Vehicle ideation (both visual and verbal) for a Viscom assignment. I think I strayed a little from the original purpose (pick an object/animal/whatever to use as inspiration for a vehicle design) because after I decided a clock on wheels was stupid, this happened.

My instructor liked it though, as did the rest of my class. Their main criticisms had to do with line weight and composition, but they liked the concept. I was really nervous about it too, since by the time I saw everyone’s work I realized that mine was really hit or miss.

Still not completely satisfied with these design iterations, so I’m probably going to do a few more before I start on the final perspective drawing that’s due next week.
